At What Time Do You Go To Bed?

At what time do you go to bed? Do you go to bed at 7 pm, 9 pm or 2 am? Each individual has a specific internal clock that they are used to. What about you? Are you a “night owl” or a “morning lark”? Is your bed time a healthy time to go to bed? Let’s answer this crucial question in this post: “What’s the right time to go to bed?

At What Time Do You Go to Bed?

It’s expected that there will be varied answers to this question. So let’s analyze the expected answers. Since, we need at least 7 to 8 hours of sleep daily to stay healthy, let’s base our discussion on this premise.

7:00 pm

If you go to bed at 7 pm, you can wake up at 3 am, based on the 8-hour sleep requirement. Hence, that’s too early even for a diligent person. It’s not also practical. According to experts, sleeping too early can be counterproductive, if you don’t feel sleepy, and you’re forcing yourself to sleep, it can be stressful and for sure, you would not be rested.

8:00 pm

If you go to bed at 8 pm, you can wake up at 4 am, getting exactly an 8-hour sleep. This can be an ideal time for those who want to relish doing their morning rituals. These rituals may be a set of exercises, and taking time to savor breakfast, while reading or watching the morning news. These activities would give you ample time to rev up your energy for the rest of the day. Remember to eat a healthy breakfast to keep your day going.

9:00 pm

This can be an ideal time for individuals, who want to adopt a healthy lifestyle. After dinner, you can spend time reading or studying. You could also take an evening stroll any time of the evening as long as it’s one hour before your bedtime. Afterwards, taking a lukewarm bath or a shower would help you settle for the night. A cup of milk will complete your preparation for a restful and uninterrupted sleep.

In this time clock, you should be waking up at 5 am. This gives you enough time to exercise, eat breakfast, read the morning news, and then go to work. Acquiring the habit of waking up at 5 am can be tough at the start, but setting your alarm clock at 5 am everyday will help your body get into the habit. When this happens, you should feel refreshed and revitalized when you wake up the following morning.

10:00 pm

This time can still be considered healthy, if you wake up at 6 am. You can go about your morning rituals, but you won’t have time to dilly-dally and relish your activities. So, it can be a bit stressful. And waking up in the morning can make you feel tired and grumpy instead of rested.

11:00 to 12:00 midnight

This time is a bit late for day persons, but for night persons, they would still be awake and just starting to be active. Waking up at 7 am means, you can be late for school or forwork, and you can’t do things at leisure. The stress of doing things quickly can gradually affect your mind and body, and you may acquire pathological conditions in the process.

The stages of sleep come typically every 1 and a half hours, and the REM (Rapid Eye Movement) phase of sleep is when your brain is most active. This is the time that you dream. Generally, this occurs in the wee hours of dawn. So, when you sleep late, you won’t be undergoing the restful sleep, because your ‘sleep time’ is simply not enough to accommodate all the phases of sleep.

Some experts stated that people should not go against their body clock unless they are determined to push through with the practice. This is because forcing yourself to sleep can do more harm than good. A few experts stated that the best time to go to bed is when you feel the sleepiest

In a recent study by a team of researchers in the Pediatric Sleep and Research Center in St. Louis Missouri, they found out that there’s a greater risk of death in people who sleep less than 5 hours a day. They discovered too that these individuals have also higher risks of hypertension, stress, moodiness, loss of creativity and weakened immune system.

Whatever your sleep patterns are, make sure that you get at least 7 to 8 hours of sleep, and you should get this during the night. A “night’s sleep” is more beneficial than a “day’s sleep”. Furthermore, don’t make it a habit to sleep so late because of the effects mentioned above.

The recommended best time to sleep is 9 pm as it’s not too early, nor too late. As the adage goes, “Early to bed and early to rise; makes a man healthy, wealthy, and wise.”
